Does anyone remember when The Beatles played Bridge of Allan?
17 MarchWell, if you were in town on January 5, 1963, then you might just have caught them at the Museum Hall.
The band were on the verge of greatness, but still largely unknown - their first single, Love Me Do, had only hit number 17 in the charts but the second, Please Please Me, was about to be released, and that would change everything.
However, the Fab Four's impending fame didn't impress the Bridge of Allan crowd, who booed them off the stage and threw coins.
Andi Lothian, who booked them to play, told the Sunday Herald in 2003: "It was absolute chaos. The crowd was all huge young farmers and they were absolutely plastered.
"They were gathering on the floor and would occasionally throw coins on the stage. One of the coins hit Paul McCartney's bass guitar. They were just not interested in them. I think the crowd were disappointed at the lack of women in the room."
So who remembers it? Were you one of the 'huge young farmers'? Or were you there to see this breakthrough band, and disappointed by the crowd?
